Nightfall rolled in covering the once bright and clear sky black. The stars were scarcely noticeable as clouds covered most of the sky. Street lights were bright and inviting as neon lights were displayed on every single block. The annoying yet recognizable sound of cars driving down the roads purring loudly as people honking could be the only thing heard throughout the restless nightlife.

The cold air of the night hit (Y/n) face but didn't disturb her movements as she continued walking down the practically deserted streets that lead towards the warm and inviting bakery, Ochitsuite. Looking ahead, its warm and soft colors could be seen lighted up by their pink outer lights, the inside of the bakery visible because of the drawn-back curtains revealing that there was only one person there who was dining; L.

Beaming as she saw her friend there (Y/n) hurried her pace, her longing to finally see her friend after so long making her forget about the deal that she and Light made only a few hours ago. Fixing the black scarf that was around her neck (Y/n) opened the door and pushed it open as the familiar 'ding' noise rang out, alerting everyone there that someone has arrived.

"Ah, (Y/n)-chan! It's been a while since you've last been here. School got you busy again?" A smiling boy said, his messy brown hair thrown over his face only providing her to see small parts of his eyes which were a bright, forest green as he wore the standard job uniform for the bakery. (Y/n) smiled happily, "Atsuko-san, long time no see! And yeah, schools been a pain in the ass lately. Though it's nothing I can't handle." (Y/n) chuckled, winking over at Atsuko, who in return just snickered.

"Yeah, schools always a pain in the ass." Atsuko groaned, leaning on the countertop as his usual messy hair seemed to bother his eyes. "So is Minhee-chan also here for the night shift or what?" (Y/n) asked him, going over to where the cashier was leaning as she, too, leaned on the counter. Atsuko nodded. "Yeah, her mom was having some heart complications again. Had to go to the hospital to check if she was alright." Frowning at this (Y/n) changed the subject. Too much hopelessness for a human to talk about isn't good.

"The usual, Atsuko-san." (Y/n) uttered, ruffling his hair as she walked away and headed towards where L was waiting for her. Watching as (Y/n) walked away Atsuko sighed in sadness and went to prepare her food. Extra whipped cream, as always.

Seeing as L was finishing up with his strawberry cake (Y/n) sat across from him and slunk on her seat, her red eyes slightly puffy from the crying that she did not too long ago as the emotional fatigue was evident in her eyes.

Peering up as L saw someone sitting across from him, he perked up as he saw it was who he has been waiting for the prior couple of days to come to the bakery. L's been waiting, you know.

"Fuck... life is so hard." (Y/n) hissed, her eyes focused towards the decorated ceiling as she took a croissant from the complimentary tray that was filled with them which was not even touched by L. Munching on it (Y/n) relaxed more as she closed her eyes, content on the scenery as L remained silent.

'(Y/n) doesn't seem to be okay. When I watched her walk inside the bakery, I saw she radiated less energy than she usually would, and her eyes, which are always bright and warm, were now red and puffy, yet still shine. (Y/n) is also frowning a lot, something I've never seen her do before. Should I ask what's wrong? Is that what a friend should do? Or should I just let her vent it out without having to say anything?' L thought, biting his fingernail as he looked down at his almost-finished strawberry cake in thought.

"If you have questions, ask me them right now, Panda-kun. I don't got all day." Snapping out of his concentration, L looked back up at (Y/n) as he saw her staring directly at him with the same frown on her face, her eyes slightly less puffy than before. "Ah..." Glancing back down at his cake, L shrugged his shoulders.

"... you seem to be less... perky than usual. Is there a reason?" L questioned her, his eyes going back to meet her own as he tried to find anything that her eyes could confess to him. Seeing that he was trying to eye-search her (Y/n) chuckled, ruffling her hair up as a long sigh escaped her lips.

"Just something that happened some time ago coming back to bother me, is all. Nothing to worry your cute self over, so don't worry about it, Panda-kun." (Y/n) assured him, Atsuko coming out of the kitchen as he held a smoothie cup in his hand and a baby blue plate on the other.

"One chocolate smoothie and one strawberry cake for you, you sweet addict." Atsuko chuckled, handing over the two things as (Y/n) gave him a playful glare. "Oh, how funny of you, mister jungle hair." (Y/n) teased him, making Atsuko give her a fake hurtful expression. "Ouch, how you wound my superior soul, (Y/n)." Atsuko said in a hurt tone, flicking (Y/n) on the forehead before running away because of (Y/n) holding a spoon.

Looking away from Atsuko, (Y/n) massaged her temples, finally happy at being able to get what she's been wishing for after what felt so long. "Finally..." (Y/n) whispered, stabbing the spoon inside the cake as she lifted it to her mouth, eating it whole as she swallowed.

"You seem rather close to that server... or cashier, (Y/n)." L suddenly remarked, this making (Y/n) glance up at him from her smoothie. "Oh..." Gulping down the smoothie (Y/n) nodded her head. "Yeah, we're close. Sometimes we meet up in the grocery store since we somehow go there on the same day, and at the same hour. It's weird but funny." (Y/n) told him, sipping from her smoothie with an expression of utter bliss smudged on her face.

Don't get her wrong. When this happened (Y/n) was suspicious, but didn't pry too much about it until the second time. Then she decided that there was something weird going on. (Y/n) always went to the grocery stores on Wednesdays, and apparently so did Atsuko. Finding this out (Y/n) spied on him for about a week before deciding that this was just a complete coincidence as he was free when (Y/n) was free from school. There wasn't anything to be suspicious about, but I suppose not everyone thinks that.

Hearing this story, L almost broke his spoon from how hard he was biting it. The cake was already down his throat, which he didn't seem to notice as she continued to talk about how close they'd gotten over the last few weeks that they've known each other.

"It's almost like the both of us have known each other since the beginning of time or something. I mean, come on! That crazy bastard likes Yu-Gi-Oh! as much as I do!" (Y/n) exclaimed, her eyes shining in happiness as she quickly finished her strawberry cake. L's ears perked up as he heard the name. This was something that he, too, was familiar with.

"Do you mean the card game Yu-Gi-Oh?" L asked her, his complete attention over at her as (Y/n) seemed to brighten as she heard that. "Wait, you know that?!" (Y/n) asked excitedly, leaning over the table out of excitement at meeting someone with the wisdom of what she thought to be the best card game ever.

L shrugged. "I've heard tales of it, but I've never played it. It's supposed to be about tactics and knowing how to use all of your cards to their fullest potential in every turn, right?" L asked her, this making (Y/n) slightly deflate but still hopeful that he knew about the card game.

"Well, yeah, that's pretty much what you should know first about the game. Though there are so many other things to it, too, you know." (Y/n) inquired, trying to pique L's interest in the card game only for L to not be that into knowing about it. Sighing in defeat (Y/n) sat back down and began slurping on her smoothie.

"So, how's the Kira Investigation going?" (Y/n) asked him, her gaze set on L as he tilted his head at the mention. "What Kira Investigation?" L asked her, though this only made (Y/n) frown. "I don't like lies, Panda-kun, so don't act coy." (Y/n) stated, probing her right arm on the table as she rested her hand on the palm of her opened hand.

Seeing this, L exhaled, "I hoped you would forget about that day, as well as your theories, but it seems like you haven't. Though I'm not surprised, and I expected this, I hoped that you would have forgotten." L answered truthfully, this being enough for (Y/n).

"I see, but either way, we're gonna have to talk about it, right? I wouldn't be that interested in the case if you haven't involved Light-kun into it." (Y/n) stated, her eyes serious as L continued sitting weirdly on his seat across from her. "I know that, but I'd advise you to not try to get into this investigation, (Y/n). If you do so, your life and the people's lives that you hold dear will be in grave danger." L warned her, his grip on his knees tight.

(Y/n) shrugged, not caring about how that would end up as she truly didn't hold anyone dear. "Gotta sacrifice some things to save thousands, Panda-kun." (Y/n) smirked, her face certain, as there didn't seem to be any hint of hesitation in her eyes. Noticing this didn't make L rethink his decision; it would still be a firm no.

"The investigation is highly classified, (Y/n). No one outside of it must never know even the tiniest detail about it." L said in a firm voice, this making (Y/n) pout in disappointment. "Ash, Panda-kun, you ever stop to think how I knew you were in the Kira Investigation. There so many reasons how I could have known, you know?" (Y/n) chuckled, not being able to not tease the poor emo kid.

L bit his nail, "It sounds like a threat, (Y/n)." (Y/n) smirked, "It ain't no threat, Panda-kun, just a reminder of how much I know and how much of a powerful pawn I can be for the investigation. Since one of your prime suspects of being Kira is Light—my best friend—then don't you think I would be the best person to go to pry some intel from him? Anything at all?" Biting his nail more, L continued thinking about this.

Even though it had many advantages, with a few of them being her intellect that far surpasses what the normal human being could possess to her physical strength, then to her connections. (Y/n) was someone bright and cheerful, smart yet cunning, brave yet kind. She could convince anyone that she was their ally. Their trusted friend.

'(Y/n) could make the investigation so much easier. (Y/n) might even coax some of the detectives who are skeptical about this to become more open to the investigation. Having her here could make wonders for us all, and besides, it does get lonely.'

Getting away from his thoughts, L looked up at her, hesitation clear in his eyes. "Are you sure about this? You could die any minute because of being in the group, you know? A heart attack, getting run over by a bus, anything gore-filled could happen to you. Do you still wish to be in this?" L asked her, him wishing for her to say no and for them to just go back to talking about whatever.

(Y/n) nodded her head, her eyes gleaming with determination. "I know, Panda-kun. I know everything about the details and I'm sorry to be asking you—my friend—about this, but I wish to do something to revenge humanity." (Y/n) proclaimed, her mind briefly forgetting about her smoothie.

"So? What do you say, Panda-kun?" (Y/n) asked, reaching out her hand as to make a future deal with him. Looking down at her hand, L gripped it into his own and shook it firmly.

"Deal. Welcome to the Kira Investigation. I hope you have enough self-love to regret this."

'Fuck you, Yin-kun.'
